Serendipity can sometimes play a part in choosing the right accountant. This happened for Claire Law, a Weybridge-based designer.
She arranged a meeting with Midgley Snelling LLP in January 2009 following a Google search. They appeared professional and seemed to offer everything she wanted, so Ms Law chose to work with the firm.
Since then, Midgley Snelling LLP has taken care of anything to do with accounting, including the tax returns and accounts. They also act as a constant source of support, answering any questions that Ms Law has regarding tax.
“They are very quick to respond to any queries,” explains Ms Law, “and they are local to me. I can walk to their offices.
“I have recommended Midgley Snelling LLP to other people in business because their level of service is exceptional and what they do is great. They are very responsive.”
When the company’s previous accountant retired, director Dale Adams wanted a new dynamic firm who could have a strong input on the running of the engineering consultancy. He found what he was looking for at Midgley Snelling LLP.
“I was a new director at the time,” explains Mr Adams, “and I had a feeling of confidence from the people at Midgley Snelling LLP. I gelled with and liked them.”
In addition to helping with the reporting and taking care of the audits, partners from Midgley Snelling LLP also attended the monthly board meetings and advised on day-to-day accountancy issues.
“Just the founder and I were directors,” says Mr Adams, “and the founder often had a different view to mine. Midgley Snelling LLP were pulled into the frame to give their opinion and act as a back up authority on the accounts side. They were a good asset in that respect.
“As a result, we benefited from a very good understanding of the company’s accounts system and how to target areas in order to save money and improve profit.”
Over a short space of time, the consultancy’s profits increased from four to twenty percent, which made them very valuable to other firms and attracted the interest of a PLC, which then bought the company.
“Midgley Snelling LLP were instrumental in assisting in this process, and also helped with the sale. They carried out the due diligence and got us prepared, as well as completing the necessary documentation.
“I would recommend Midgley Snelling LLP as they gave me sound, honest advice when I was running the company. I really developed a rapport with the partner who attended our meetings – they were very good, dynamic and responsive.”
Nicola Phillips, Sane Entertainment
Starting a new business can be a complicated and daunting prospect, so you need the best possible professional services to help you realise your business goals.
According to Nicola Phillips, director of Weybridge-based Sane Entertainment, that’s exactly what she receives from Midgley Snelling LLP. When she started her media and entertainment company, Miss Phillips wanted a local accountant that wasn’t just a one man band.
Following a Google search, she arranged a meeting with Midgley Snelling LLP and was very impressed by the accountant she spoke to.
“As I only started my company a year ago, I have had so many questions. Midgley Snelling LLP walked me through the whole process of starting a new business, explaining, for example, my VAT returns and tax. They are there and are always available to talk to, which I have found very helpful.
“Midgley Snelling LLP go through everything with me and James has walked me through my VAT returns online more than once, so I don’t make any errors.
“As a result, I know my accounts and VAT returns are done properly and how a new company should be run. Midgley Snelling LLP have been brilliant.
“I have already recommended them to a friend with a small website company because I know I can pick up the phone any time and they will be there to explain everything in layman’s terms. They have a good hands-on service and as I know they want to help I don’t feel like I’m a burden.”
