Expert advice for accountancy firm's clients

Weybridge-based Chartered Accountants Midgley Snelling teamed up with a leading economist to offer its clients and other professionals an expert insight into the current state of the British economy and the choices facing the next government.

Dennis Turner, chief economist at HSBC bank, provided a detailed economic review during the event at the Hilton Hotel in Cobham on Wednesday, 5 May.

Among the issues highlighted were the effects of unemployment, the record levels of personal debt and anticipated increases in taxation. On a positive note, Dennis argued that corporate profitability remained robust and there were definite signs of an economic recovery taking shape during 2010.

Midgley Snelling partner Andrew Grout introduced Denis and mentioned some of the skills of the other Partners present.

Around 40 clients and other professionals attended the Midgley Snelling event, and many contacted the firm afterwards to compliment the organisers on a useful and successful event.

Stephen Yeates, another Midgley Snelling partner, said the firm was a founder member of MGI, a worldwide association of independent accounting firms, and that Dennis has spoken at a number of Association meetings.

He added: “Once again we had a first class presentation from Dennis and we have already received a lot of positive feedback from clients and contacts many saying they found the event both informative and enjoyable.”

The firm plans to organise more such events for the benefit of clients and contacts.
