Accountants Launch New Legacy Service

A new service has been launched by Weybridge-based chartered accountants Midgley Snelling, which is designed to make it easier for an individual’s loved ones to sort out their financial affairs in the event of the person’s death.

The firm has launched a new booklet, where users of the service can make a note of financial details including contact details for their solicitors, accountants, stockbroker and bank and a summary of shares, property, savings accounts and any other assets they hold.

By filling out the booklet and keeping it in a safe place, with the option of lodging a second copy with Midgley Snelling, it is hoped that the person’s surviving relatives will be able to sort through their financial affairs more easily and avoid any costly surprises later on.

Managing partner Robin Sewell said: “It is never easy to think about what will happen to our finances when we die, or are no longer able to look after our own affairs, but a little planning now is likely to make the process easier for our loved ones when the time comes.

“Longer life expectancy, changing family circumstances and more complex tax regimes all mean it has never been more important to be clear about your wishes, to ensure they are respected.”
