Midgley Snelling attend MGI European Area Meeting in Budapest
James Beecher, Stephen Yeates and Jonathan Farrow, partners at chartered accountancy firm Midgley Snelling, located in Weybridge, Surrey and London travelled to Budapest, Hungary in June to attend the MGI European Area Meeting.
MGI is one of the world’s leading alliances of accountants, auditors and consultants with members located in 80 different countries. MGI members pride themselves, not only on their professional skills, but in their true commitment to building long-term, one to one business relationships with successful international and local clients, providing business solutions worldwide
As the largest city of Hungary, Budapest is the country's principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation centre; a both fitting and beautiful location in which to hold a 3-day European business meeting. The hotel, the hub of the meeting activities, is located on the banks of the Danube with spectacular views across the river to the historic part of the city. The conference was attended by 66 delegates and 19 accompanying persons who had travelled from all over the world to meet with their colleagues and experience the commerce of Hungary first hand.
The conference was opened by the MGI European Coordinating Committee Eastern European representative, Laszlo Killik. A full three days of business and commercial activities, which included new members’ presentations from Georgia, Italy, Norway and Denmark followed.
Clive Vegas Bennett, European Executive Director, presented a report on marketing MGI in Europe, giving insightful and useful guidance on how to improve members’ websites.
Saturday’s final presentation, given by historian and economist Miklos Ziegler, focused on illustrating the often very complex history of Hungary. Miklos Ziedler’s message was clear: ‘the true character of the Hungarian through 1000 years of time, historical, political and cultural machinations had brought together one of the most energetic, well-educated and talented people resources in Eastern Europe’. His presentation did not fail to prove his point and the audience was left with a greater understanding of the workings of Hungary and the Hungarian people.
James Beecher, partner at Midgley Snelling, said: “The MGI European Area meeting was very beneficial and included many lively debates. It was also very interesting to learn more about how businesses are run in Hungary.
“Attending the conference gave us an opportunity to meet new MGI members and some delegates from further a field, something that would not be possible had we not attended.
“The new members gave various presentations during the conference, and this was a great opportunity for us to find out more about them and hear their ideas.
“Our thanks goes to Laszlo and his team for making us welcome and hosting a very successful conference.”
