A Weybridge-based accountancy firm has donated £800 to a local school in support of an innovative programme to engage disadvantaged students with sport through martial arts sessions.
MGI Midgley Snelling LLP made the donation through its Midsnell Activity Fund to support the martial arts initiative at Heathside School in Weybridge.
The school will use the £800 donation to offer martial arts sessions, intended to engage around 25 qualifying students who do not take part in its existing extra-curricular sports activities.
The initiative is geared towards increasing participation in physical activities amongst this group of students, improving attendance and forging positive relationships with staff.
Tracey Wickens, a Partner at MGI Midgley Snelling LLP and Janice Chessman, Receptionist and Administrator at the firm, visited the school on Friday 24 May 2019 to present a cheque for £800.
Tracey Wickens said: “The initiative at Heathside School is an exceptionally good fit with the aim of the Midsnell Activity Fund to promote physical activity in the local community, which is why we are delighted to make this donation.
“At MGI Midgley Snelling LLP, we are proud of our heritage in Weybridge and we are always keen to make a difference to the local community.”
Ben Blake, Director of Physical Education and Sport at Heathside School commented: “We were thrilled to have secured this funding to allow students the opportunity to take part and engage in activities that they may otherwise never have had the opportunity to experience. The school has a diverse mix of pupils and we are keen to provide equal access to activities for all, where possible”
MGI Midgley Snelling LLP established the Midsnell Activity Fund to promote engagement and participation in a range of different activities, enabling more people to live active, healthy and interesting lives.
