Identity Verification (IDV) becomes mandatory from 18 November 2025
Companies House is introducing mandatory Identity Verification (IDV) for all UK company directors, Persons of Significant Control (PSCs) and LLP members from 18 November 2025.
If your confirmation statement is due on or after that date, it cannot be filed unless every director has already completed IDV.
What this means for you
- IDV is a one-off process – once verified, you won’t need to do it again each year.
- Verification is completed through the Government’s One Login service.
- On completion, each director/PSC receives a unique code. You will need these codes to file your confirmation statement.
- Codes can be used across multiple companies and for future filings.
- From November, directors and PSCs will be able to log in to Companies House to check their own verification status.
Who needs to verify and when
- From 18 November 2025: All new directors, PSCs and LLP members at incorporation, and those incorporating new companies.
- Existing company officers: Must complete verification within the 12-month transition period from Autumn 2025, as part of the confirmation statement cycle.
Why you need to act early
If verification is not completed, we will not be able to file your confirmation statement on your behalf.
It is, therefore, your responsibility as a director to ensure your verification is completed in good time. Leaving this until the deadline may result in delays or even penalties.
We are happy to assist you with the verification process to ensure that you can meet your Companies House obligations.
Next steps
We strongly recommend completing IDV as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary disruption.
We will be contacting you shortly to offer assistance in obtaining your verification code which will enable us to register you with Companies House. Please keep an eye out for this email.
